Barrett appeared in 30 games for the Padres in an injury-marred 2008 season, batting .202 with two home runs and nine RBIs.
Padres Agree To One-Year Deal With Luis Rodriguez
The Padres have agreed to a one-year deal with infielder Luis Rodriguez.
Rodriguez hit .287 with 12 RBI and 22 runs scored in 64 games in his first season with San Diego.
He was signed by Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 1997, Rodriguez has a career average of .257 with six home runs and 50 RBI over parts of four major league seasons.
Yanks And Teixeira Agree To $180M Deal
Free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira has reached agreement with the New York Yankees on an eight-year contract worth more than $180 million, three sources involved in the negotiations tells ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
The Yankees swooped in on Teixeira on Tuesday when it was believed the Boston Red Sox or the Washington Nationals were the likeliest to be his future employer.
The contract will pay Teixeira an average of $22.5 million per season.
Yankees On Verge Of Signing Teixeira
SI.com is reporting that the Yankees are on the verge of signing Mark Teixeira.
The Red Sox were thought to be the free-agent's likely destination.
Terms of the agreement are not yet known.
Yankees, Wang Agree On One-Year, $5M Deal
Pitcher Chien-Ming Wang and the Yankees avoided salary arbitration when they agreed Monday to a $5M, one-year deal, as reported by the Associated Press.
The right-hander was 8-2 with a 4.07 ERA in 15 starts last season before injuring a foot while running the bases at Houston in mid-June.
Nats, Cabrera Agree To One-Year Deal
The Nationals and pitcher Daniel Cabrera have agreed to terms on a one-year deal, according to baseball sources.
Cabrera was 8-10 with a 5.25 ERA for the Orioles this past season.
The Nationals reportedly beat out the Mets and Pirates for Cabrera's services.
Rivera Agrees With Angels On Three-Year Deal
Free-agent outfielder Juan Rivera is returning to the Angels with a $12.75 million, three-year contract.
Rivera, 30, is a career .284 hitter with 72 homers in eight seasons with the Yankees, Expos, and Angels.
Phillies Re-Sign Moyer For Two Years
The Phillies and pitcher Jamie Moyer agreed on Monday to a two-year contract that will keep the left-hander with the World Champions.
Moyer went 16-7 with a 3.71 ERA in 33 starts last season and pitched six strong innings as the Phillies won Game 3 of the World Series.
"I'm sure if you ask Jamie, he'll say that he will play out a few more contracts," Phillies' GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said Monday. "I know on paper it probably says this is his last contract, but it will be fun to see how it plays out."
Royals Agree To Terms With Farnsworth
The Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Kyle Farnsworth on a two-year contract through the 2010 season.
The deal also includes a club option for 2011. Consistent with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In addition, the Royals announced that right-handed pitcher Jairo Cuevas, who was non-tendered last night prior to the deadline, has agreed to terms on a Triple-A minor league contract.
"Kyle Farnsworth's power arm blends in well with the rest of our bullpen," Royals Senior Vice President-Baseball Operations/General Manager Dayton Moore said. "We feel his presence will impact our bullpen and make it very strong."
Farnsworth, 32, is a 10-year veteran of the Majors, compiling a 30-48 record and a 4.47 ERA in 612 career appearances (26 starts) for the Cubs (1999-2004), Tigers (2005, 2008), Braves (2005) and Yankees (2006-08). He has allowed 704 hits in 735.0 career innings while striking out 738 against 328 walks. Since the 2003 season, has posted 441 strikeouts, the seventh-most in the Majors among relievers.
